Together We Give

Dear Friends,

Today is #GivingTuesdayNow, a response by GivingTuesday.org to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. It is an opportunity for people around the world to stand together regardless of race, faith, or political point of view, and through our generosity, to make positive change in the lives of others and the world around us.

As I think about the incredible power of generosity, I am extraordinarily grateful to all those who give of themselves for the benefit of others. Thank you to everyone on the front lines of this pandemic. Words are insufficient to express my gratitude for the self-sacrifice of those who take care of us – doctors, nurses and other health care professionals; those who keep us safe – police, firefighters, EMTs and other first-responders; those who keep us fed – farmers, laborers in the fields, warehouse workers, and those working in grocery stores, restaurants and food banks; and the many others working in other essential businesses, teaching our children, making sure our water, power and internet stay on, and producing things that we took for granted only a few months ago, like hand sanitizer and (yes, I’m going to say it) toilet paper!

I am also thankful for all those who give of themselves to make Bel Canto successful. Thank you to all our donors, ticket buyers, volunteers, sponsors, musicians, and staff. Your support has allowed us to bring the joy of choral singing to Greensboro and beyond for more than 37 years. And your support will make sure we continue to sing for many, many years to come. Whether you are a long-time supporter or only just started following us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or YouTube, you are the reason for our success!

I encourage you to take part in today’s #GivingTuesdayNow movement. There are so many ways you can make a difference:

  • Make a gift of any size to the causes that matter most to you.
  • Show gratitude to healthcare workers, service providers, and other essential workers who are providing the services we rely on, even at risk to their own health.
  • Become a virtual volunteer! You can contact an organization directly to inquire about opportunities or find ideas and resources here: https://www.pointsoflight.org/virtual-volunteering-opportunities/
  • Follow and share about your favorite charities and small businesses on social media.
  • Share kindness with your neighbors. Check on those who are alone and may need help with errands or appreciate the sound of a friendly voice.

I believe singing reflects all human experience, and that choral music is a unique and powerful vehicle not only to express the inexpressible, but for healing and community building. In these times especially, we have many reasons to raise our voices in song. When this crisis is past, we will sing together again thanks to all the ways you support Bel Canto. Thank you for all you do to keep Bel Canto singing!

Be well,

Jeffrey Carlson
Executive Director
